Tarkine Running has launched its Kickstarter!

As many of you know, I've written many articles on Runner's Tribe, with my first being back in 2008! What you may not know is it was Sam who inspired me to sit down and write Make the Leap.

I had just left Apple and he contacted me to see if I'd be interested in publishing a book, as they were getting into the publishing business. My long put off plans to write Make the Leap suddenly had one less obstacle. It was enough to get me started. I ended up self-publishing, but throughout the process Sam offered me guidance and support. I can't thank him enough!

Throughout the time I've known Ross and Sam, the two founders, they've continually sought to create products that make the community better. They've published young writers, launched magazines, published books, organized races, hosted events, and now they are taking it to the next level: they're launching their own shoe company!

I've had the pleasure to watch them develop this idea into a reality over the past three years, from their initial designs to their premier "goshawk" model, launching today. It's been so impressive to see what they've been able to do. Their new shoes are:

• highly durable, lasting up to 1,000km (600 miles)
• highly sustainable, using biodegradable materials 
• easily recyclable, with a "Return to Tarkine" program to ensure your old shoes don't end up in a landfill

Their Kickstarter achieved its goal in 4 hours, before I could get this posted! But you should absolutely still back them. They will need all the support they can get, and you will need a pair of Tarkine to take your running to the next level.
